In November, we sent our application and in December, during WordCamp US, we were given the go ahead. We let the Christmas holidays end and then we started working: one a tight deadline, we had so many things to learn. We spent hours reading the handbook, we sent dozens of emails to WordCamp Central to solve some doubts and finally the surprises started: 71 applications to talk, 38 applications to volunteers and the joy of selling out a whole week before the event.

WordCamp Torino was everything we dreamed and we did not dare say out loud: interesting, exciting, inclusive, open. It was also noisy, in the best possible way, festive and full of new opportunities for networking. Now we can say that it was a success.

In two days together we built bridges, roads, ties. Bridges between different experiences, roads towards the future, ties between us.
We created this event on the platform offered by the WordPress Foundation, respecting and enforcing the guidelines of the international community. The rules to follow are few and dictated by common sense to make the experience enjoyable for everyone: from the code of conduct to specific guidelines for sponsors and speakers.

In Torino, the Italian community has shown its readiness to participate in the global democratization of publishing, as an open and welcoming community, that was able to leave aside personal gain to put the focus on WordPress and the development of its community.

Many have complimented us on the organization: things wouldn’t have gone so well without the help of a great team of volunteers, many of them are regulars at the monthly Torino Meetup, who came from near and far. We had prepared 4 hours shifts maximum, and instead everyone was in position well beyond the allotted time to help out and make sure that everyone had a good time. Thank you!

Pic by Gianni Vascellari

Thanks to the speakers: the first time speakers who chose WordCamp Torino to make their public debut and the experienced speakers from all over the world that came to share their knowledge and helped us kick-off a new wave of WordCamps in Italy.

Pic by Gianni Vascellari

Thanks to the sponsors, that with their generous contributions have helped us make WordCamp Torino 2016 a memorable event!

Pic by Gianni Vascellari

Thanks to the deputies of WordCamp Central who have guided, reassured and helped us in every way possible.

I would like to personally thank each of the organizers:

Carmen, who took care of a satellite event, After Party and kept in touch with the swag supplier.
