Ci siamo, la settimana del WordCamp è iniziata!

Il primo appuntamento è per venerdì 01 aprile alle 0re 10:00 presso Toolbox Coworking con il Contributor Day.

Cosa portare

Non dimenticare il tuo computer e caricabatterie, ti serviranno per contribuire: a qualsiasi team tu decida di contribuire sono la base per lavorare insieme.

Se ti piace prendere appunti sulla carta porta anche un quaderno e penne. Non dimenticare biglietti da visita e cellulare per restare in contatto con gli altri!

Vuoi contribuire a Core?

Per partecipare a questo team sarà necessario configurare sul proprio computer un webserver per usare e testare WordPress localmente. Ci sono molti modi per farlo: MAMP, WAMP, XAMPP, ecc…; il problema di queste soluzioni è che possono essere difficili da configurare, soprattutto per installare diverse versioni di WordPress.

Un altro modo per configurare un webserver locale è tramite una macchina virtuale che funziona indipendentemente dal tuo sistema operativo. Anche in questo caso ci sono molte soluzioni, sia gratis che a pagamento. La soluzione completa che consigliamo è VirtualBox, Vagrant e Varying Vagrant Vagrants (VVV). Questa combinazione ti permette di creare un ambiente virtuale molto simile a quello di un vero webserver, e configura automaticamente tutto il necessario, compreso WordPress.

Configurazione di VirtualBox, Vagrant e VVV

Le seguenti istruzioni sono adatte per Windows, Mac o Linux; sono estratte dalla pagina Github di VVV, che puoi consultare per istruzioni dettagliate e ulteriori dettagli. Se non riesci a configurare il tuo computer in autonomia non ti preoccupare, troverai supporto direttamente al Contributor Day.

  1. Installa VirtualBox e Vagrant
  2. Scarica Varying Vagrant Vagrants in una cartella sul tuo computer:
    • con git: git clone git://github.com/Varying-Vagrant-Vagrants/VVV.git VVV
    • scarica il file zip del repository ed estrailo in una cartella VVV sul tuo computer
  3. Installa il plugin vagrant-hostsupdater con il comando vagrant plugin install vagrant-hostsupdater
    • questo è un passaggio opzionale ma facilita la configurazione dei siti aggiungendo direttamente i domini usati da VVV sul file hosts del tuo computer
  4. Entra nella cartella VVV da line di comando con cd /path/to/VVV
  5. Fai partire Vagrant con vagrant up
    • ci vorrà un po’ di tempo per scaricare tutti i file necessari
    • potrebbe venire richiesta la password di amministratore per configurare il file hosts
  6. Se tutto è configurato correttamente potrai accedere ai siti di default di VVV, tra cui:

Vuoi contribuire a Mobile?

Per partecipare a questo gruppo è necessario installare sul proprio computer un web server ed una installazione di WordPress (Core). Si può utilizzare MAMP, WAMP, XAMPPoppure Vagrant, come illustrato nelle istruzioni per Core.

È necessario poi installare una copia di Android Studio, completo di JAVA SDK ed Android SDK. Sezione All Android Studio Packages della guida. Per finire è necessario avere un account su GitHub ed avere un client GIT installato sulla macchina locale. SourceTree è un ottimo client visuale.

Vuoi organizzare un Meetup o un WordCamp nella tua città?

Questa è l’occasione giusta per confrontarti con altre persone che hanno già fatto partire Meetup nella propria città e hanno organizzato WordCamp in Italia e in Europa: nel pomeriggio faremo una breve presentazione in italiano e ci sarà spazio per domande e proposte.

Vuoi partecipare a più di un gruppo?

Nessun problema! Verrai accolto in ogni gruppo a braccia aperte: tieni presente che sei vuoi partecipare a Core, che prevede una introduzione pratica tecnica, conviene sentirla di mattina.

Here we go, only a few days and the WordCamp will start!

Our first date is the Contributor Day on Friday 01 April at 10 o’clock, the location is also Toolbox Coworking like on the second day.

What to bring with you

Don’t forget your computer and power cables + adaptors, you will need that for contributing. Don’t forget pens and paper if you like to take notes. Also, bring business cards and/or your mobile phone to keep in touch with other contributors!

We will provide lunch and snacks 🙂

Do you want to contribute to the WordPress core?

You should have prepared your computer if you want to help this team. You’ll need a web server up and running to test WordPress locally. There are a lot of different packages like MAMP, WAMP, XAMPP, and so on…; the limitation of these solutions: the configuration is quite difficult if you want to use more than one WordPress installation at the same time.

You can also setup a virtual machine that works independently from your operating system. If you like this, there are numerous solutions, free and paid.

Our recommendation is that you use VirtualBox and Vagrant e Varying Vagrant Vagrants (VVV). This combination offers a virtual environment that has a configured web server and every tool you need to develop and test.

How to Use Varying Vagrant Vagrants

There are install packages for Windows, Mac or Linux; if you stack with that, don’t worry! We’ll help you at the Contributor Day.

Do you want to help in the Mobile team?

All instructions for the setup are like these in the paragraphs above for the Core team. Additionally, you’ll need a copy of Android Studio, with the JAVA SDK and the Android SDK. You’ll need also an account at GitHub and a Git client installed. SourceTree is a good choice if you need a visual client.

Summary:

This is your chance to discuss with other community members that are already run meetups in their city or did organize a WordCamp in Italy or Europe: there will be a short presentation in Italian in the afternoon with question & answers after.

Do you want to contribute in more than on team?

No problem! Every team will welcome you: please keep in mind there will be a short technical introduction if you want to contribute to Core or Mobile, so it would make more sense to begin here in the morning.
